One of our residents laid a wreath on the war memorial in Bardney village on Remembrance Sunday. He attended the main service as he has done for many years and then participated in the ceremony. Luckily the rain held off long enough for him to walk to the memorial. Clare later held our own Service and a wreath from Willan House was taken to the war memorial at Stainfield church.
Colin was one of the veterans of Bomber Command who attended the unveiling of the Spire in Lincoln in early October. It was a glorious day, blue skies and warm temperatures. He watched the ceremony, saw the Vulcan sweep overhead and described it as ‘a lovely, lovely day’. Since moving in to Willan then he has been enabled to visit RAF Conningsby where the crew and engineers of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight posed for photographs with him in front of ‘Thumper’ the Lancaster and also had a trip down memory lane in the Heritage Centre at RAF Scampton.
